Hi Visionary,
Issa Rae, creator of the hit HBO series Insecure, could hire nearly anyone she wants, right?
Sitting down with Emma Grede on the Aspire podcast, she described editing a video on her own, with a team ready to do it, because showing them by doing the work herself felt easier than putting it into words or trying to explain it.
When I heard her say that, I recognized myself right away. I've been the fixer, the overachiever and the responsible one in my own business, and for years my hands went straight to whatever needed doing because doing it felt faster than handing it over.
If a woman with Issa’s resources still reaches for the work herself, the habit lives elsewhere than in the budget. It lives in a belief that our own hands are the safest ones in the business.
Years of running my own companies have taught me something different about my desk.
Most of what lands on my desk needs execution, from human hands or AI. Only a piece of it needs my judgment, and that share is where I belong.
