Hi Visionary,
In 2013, five years into running my agency, a client asked me an unexpected question.
She was the owner of an international jewelry appraisal business and had been running her business since the 80s, very well respected in the industry and someone I thought of as a role model for my own business due to her longevity.
She started telling me that she was launching a 501(c)(3) to honor her late niece and support others facing similar circumstances. As we wrapped up a meeting at her office, she asked if I would be a founding board member.
My first reaction? Complete surprise.
I believed in the cause she was intending to support deeply. But I hadnโt seen myself as that woman. The one who gets asked to help lead something bigger, or is invited to a table like this, or to be on a board.
Iโd been running a company for almost half a decade. Making decisions, managing my team and clients and building something real.
And still, somewhere inside, I wasnโt identifying as a leader.
But I said yes anyway.
That decision started something I never anticipated. Almost 13 years later, Iโm still serving on boards, building, and leading alongside people who are well respected in their industries and I admire. It became part of who I am. And, most importantly, my board service has allowed me to positively impact thousands of lives in ways I never imagined.
That shift in self-perception changed so much internally and externally. I gained more clients, revenue, and opportunities I would not have pursued had I remained limited by my previous self-image.
Identity is the foundation.
That moment was pivotal; it was me finally catching up to the woman I already was. Once I caught up to the identity that everyone else was witnessing, my business caught up too.
But identity is only one piece of the puzzle.
Beyond Identity
Last week, we talked about the Identity Tax, the compound cost of operating from who you used to be instead of who youโve become.
However, identity is only one of four domains that determine whether you scale or stall.
You can have your identity dialed in and still be leaking revenue.
You can be making great money and have zero sovereignty over your time.
You can be visible and aligned and still be running on empty.
The question isnโt just who are you becoming. Itโs where are you, really, across all four.
The Elevation Index
After almost 30 years in business, Iโve noticed a pattern: the women who scale sustainably arenโt just strong in one area. Theyโre elevated across four.
I call it the Elevation Index.
Identity is who you see yourself as, and whether your business reflects her.
Revenue is not just how much you make, but how aligned and sustainable your income is.
Sovereignty is your ownership of time, decisions and energy.
Capacity is your ability to hold more without breaking.
Most assessments measure one thing. Revenue. Visibility. Mindset.
But your business isnโt one thing. Itโs an ecosystem. And when one domain is low, it drags the others down.
The Blind Spot Problem
This isnโt just intuition.
Research from Korn Ferry found that executives with high self-awareness lead businesses that achieve higher financial performance. A study by Babson College found that only 10-15% of leaders, including entrepreneurs, have accurate external self-awareness.
That means most of us are operating with blind spots we donโt even know exist.
The Elevation Index reveals these blind spots, not to assign blame, but to identify gaps so you can address them.
And if that hit home, I go even deeper in this weekโs private podcast episode of Joyful Ambition on Substack: โYouโre Keeping Yourself Powerless.โ
Itโs for the woman whoโs been waiting to feel โreadyโ before she steps fully into who she already is. I share the story about the lie I had to stop telling myself to own my power finally.
If your identity hasnโt caught up to your capability, this is the conversation you didnโt know you needed.
The Imbalance
What I see constantly, the woman:
With a strong identity and bold vision, who hasnโt raised her rates in two years. Identity high, Revenue low.
Making $300K, who hasnโt taken a real vacation in 18 months. Revenue high, Sovereignty low.
Fully booked and visible, who is one client emergency away from collapse. Revenue high, Capacity low.
Doing โall the right thingsโ who still doesnโt feel like the CEO of her own business. External success, Identity lag.
That last one was me in 2013. Running a business but not identifying as a leader. The gap wasnโt in my skills. It was in my self-concept.
You canโt out-strategy or work an imbalance. You have to see it first.
What Changes When You Know
When you know your actual score, rather than relying on assumptions, you stop addressing the wrong problems.
Most entrepreneurs are treating symptoms, not sources.
A revenue plateau isnโt always a marketing problem.
Burnout isnโt always a boundaries problem.
Stalled growth isnโt always a strategy problem.
The Elevation Index identifies the true causes behind stalled progress.
Awareness is the first of the 5 Aโs of Joyful Ambitionโข, and itโs the most strategic move you can make.
Once you see where you actually are, you can finally build from truth instead of assumptions.
Knowing your actual score helps you reclaim your power.
Because when you finally see the real reason behind the stall, you stop spinning your wheels and start moving with intention.
Your Baseline
If 2025 felt heavy, youโre not alone. A lot of entrepreneurs carried more than they ever planned to, worked harder than ever before, and still didn't see a real payoff for their efforts.
I understand, because Iโve had years where I was doing everything โrightโ and still wondering why it felt harder than it should.
Thatโs exactly why I used this assessment and increased my 2025 revenue by 39%.
It didnโt hand me a miracle. It gave me truth. It showed me where to focus, what to adjust, and what to stop tolerating. I made the updates and executed.
Because the gap between your current self and your future potential is always reflected in these four domains.
The clarity you're missing is already within reach.
