Hey there, visionary,
When I first became an entrepreneur in 2008, I believed honoring my ambition meant working harder, doing more, and pushing through exhaustion.
If I just worked longer hours, sacrificed more, and outperformed, the high level of success I wanted would follow. And it did.
And for years?
I was exhausted. Overworked. Frustrated.
No matter how much I achieved, I felt like I was constantly chasing something just out of reach. I had built a career, hit milestones, and checked all the boxes, yet deep down, I kept asking myself:
Why doesn't this feel the way I thought it would?
I had followed the formula, so why was I still drained, unfulfilled, and wondering if all this effort was leading to the life I truly wanted?
Maybe you've felt that, too.
Maybe you're showing up, working, and achieving... but it still feels like something is missing.
My breaking point
I remember one particular morning. I sat in my office, coffee in hand, staring at my ever-growing to-do list. My schedule was beyond packed, my inbox overflowing; I was scheduled to fly out that week and visit a client, and yet… all I felt was numb.
Instead of building the business and freedom I always dreamt of, I had built myself a gorgeous gilded cage.
I had built a life that looked successful from every measure outside, but inside?
I was drowning.
I had two choices: Keep running on empty, and hope it magically got better... or stop, take a breath, and ask myself the hard questions.
What if ambition wasn't supposed to feel like this?
What if success didn't have to come at the cost of exhaustion?
What if I could redefine ambition but on my OWN terms?
The shift that changed everything
That was the moment I made a shift.
I stopped treating ambition as something to endure and started using it as a tool that worked for me instead of against me.
Instead of forcing my way to success, I started aligning my ambition with my values, my joy, and my well-being, essentially making ambition my ally, not my enemy.
That's when everything changed.
I found a new way to build, grow, and achieve without burning out, and I call it Joyful Ambition.
I wrote about it in a piece that was published by FastCompany, where I present a new definition of ambition.
Success on your terms
Ambition feels heavy when you're chasing someone else's version of success. The question is, "What DO I actually want?"
Try this: Write down your biggest goals, then ask yourself, Are these mine, or did I absorb them from someone else? If your success doesn't feel right, it's time to redefine it.
When you set success on your own terms, you don't just accomplish goals. You create a life that feels fulfilling. You wake up with clarity and confidence, knowing that every step you take is leading you somewhere meaningful.
Focus on what moves you forward
The pressure to always be "on" or doing something can keep you stuck. Real progress comes from doing less, but making each action count.
Try this: Cut your to-do list in half, yes, half! If a task isn't bringing you closer to something meaningful, it's a distraction. Remove it and thank me later.
Instead of staying busy but never feeling accomplished, you'll make progress in less time. That means more time for what matters without feeling like you're falling behind.
Rest as a Strategy
Burnout isn't proof of dedication. The real flex of success is feeling relaxed and rested and knowing when to recharge.
Try this: Schedule rest like you schedule meetings. It's not optional; it's necessary.
When you prioritize rest, you perform better, period. Your ideas are clearer, your creativity flows, and you show up fully engaged.
The result? You create more impact and actually enjoy the success you're building.
Make it work for you
When I stopped letting ambition drain me and started using it with intention, my business grew, my income increased, and most importantly, I felt incredible. My internal and external success matched and I happily stepped out of that gorgeous gilded cage.
And this is exactly what we'll be diving into at the 2025 Level Up Summit.
